Time for breath. The music scene in Northern Ireland has been more than a little caught up by its own success lately, what with these guys, and them, not to mention them.
Time for a reminder, if a reminder were needed, of a band who did it first, better and with cooler. We've had The National on this site from New York and Seu Jorge from Rio de Janeiro, but this is the first time Bandwidth has ventured as far as Dublin - and we're proud to present you their finest sons (and daughter) - Fight Like Apes

Robyn G. Shiels Session
To celebrate Midsummer, Robyn G. Shiels invited us over to his patio for a glass or six of wine, to watch the sun go down and sing a few tunes.
We were wary at first. We've seen this guy live. We've heard "Hello Death", "I'd Go To Funerals", "The Dead Sea" and other cheery titles. Does he live in a graveyard? Would he, Lost Boys-style offer us a glass of wine and we'd have to live there forever?
Fortunately, Robyn was in a more chipper mood. His dark side actually revealed itself to be the more creative-variety of duende - and we ...
Pocket Promise Session
It was shortly after the filming of Pocket Promise's poptastic video for Who burnt the roller disco that we met up again to conclude some unfinished business. See, we'd talked about filming an acoustic session for sometime. The band are about to release a new album and were keen to showcase some new material while revising some of the previous stuff. So, we at Bandwidth were happy to suggest the something old/something new/something borrowed formula that seemed to work so well with The Jane Bradfords in February last: a new track, a new version of an old track and a ...
The Good Fight Live@Radar, 30.04.09

If ever there was a band who epitomized their music in terms of image, The Good Fight would surely be worth backing. Led by Ben Robinson's ethereal vocals (which match up perfectly with the band's clean cut appearance it has to be declared) the band have managed to grow their audience gradually over the last six months, winning fans not through force but by much softer means. Normally you could imagine that such statements would be used to deride rather than embrace said subject matter - but the almost quiet, affecting depth with ...
In is fifth week, IN STORES NOW finally moves out of a store. Before you ask, The Golden Thread Gallery isn’t the tacky kind of gallery where pictures of cows are for sale and stuff like that. It’s a proper bona fide exhibition space.
What better space than for Belfast troupe Kitty & The Can Openers to premiere a brand new song “Henry’s Like A Little Dragon”.
What with all the talk of this little event, 40 years ago this month - we thought this track was weirdly appropriate. No UFOs in sight.
Kitty & The Can Openers - Henry’s Like A Little Dragon
For this weeks’ instalment of Live@, we’re very proud to bring you something a little mind-bending to say the least.
Rhys Chatham’s composition “Guitar Trio” is a performance piece in the art-noise rock mould. I’ll let Kiran Acharya from Culture Northern Ireland explain a bit better than I can: “The piece is established as a sort of academic/sonic precursor to what later became noise rock – lots of volume and overtones clanging together to create a large sound that exposes the ear to sounds it wouldn’t normally hear. While the song may at first appear to be a simple repetition, if you listen to it through a couple of times and relax into it, it’s an incredibly rewarding piece. You hear all types of mad sonic warfare; textures, dancing trebly tones. Maybe I’m mad but I’ve had an almost transcendent experience listening to it”.
Well said, I think.

Another Wednesday, another episode of IN STORES NOW. This week, Coleraine/Derry people Under Stars & Gutters admire the “water pipes” and Korn hoodies in a little shop called Fresh Garbage in Belfast. It brings me back.
Watch for the camera shy die hard fans at 2:08. They specifically asked that we mention them.
We spent a sun-soaked afternoon down at the Willowstone festival in Killyleagh last weekend, where we bumped into, amongst others, members from Ten Gallon Hat & The Big Salute drinking in the sun and playin bluesy.
What with the 4th July holiday fast approaching - wouldn't it be appropriate to kick back with a bit of old time roots & blues, done proper. After all we taught them Yanks everything they know.

IN STORES NOW continues with another Wednesday and another show. This one's a gem from John Shelly & The Creatures.
Fresh from their success having this song 'Long May You Reign' featured in an ad for, of all things, Northern Ireland - we decided to join in the spirit of things and advertise one of the true pleasures Belfast has to offer. A mighty fine fish supper from a damn good chippie. Only one thing missing..
Next episode will be broadcast live from the Great Northern brewery I swear
